Under the leadership of Aaron Krasner, M.D., ASAP's President 2023-2024, ASAP created a transformational opportunity within the field of Adolescent and Young Adult Psychiatry. Our goal through this educational initiative is to create a vibrant hub for expertise capable of incisively responding to the youth mental health epidemic. Our Goal is to develop a specialized set of training opportunities for psychiatrists, with a separate set of opportunities for primary care providers working with teens and young adults.
This initiative consists of two components completed sequentially:
1. Establishment of the American Institute for Adolescent Psychiatry (AIAP), a non-profit organization separate from ASAP whose sole purpose is to develop research and training in Adolescent & Young Adult Psychiatry. AIAP will solicit grant and philanthropic funding to support this goal and was established in July, 2024.
2. Curriculum Development. ASAP has assembled an assortment of Subject Matter Experts (SME's) to work with AIAP and other partners to develop an on-demand set of online programs to provide needed training to psychiatrists and separate ones more specific for primary care providers. ASAP expects to launch these curricula in 2025.
