Who We Are

The American Institute for Adolescent Psychiatry (AIAP) exists at the intersection of science, compassion, and urgency. At a moment when youth and young adults' mental health has become a national crisis, AIAP brings together clinicians, researchers, educators, and advocates united by one purpose: ensuring every young person can access the specialized psychiatric care they deserve.

We are a mission-driven catalyst, closing the gap between the shortage of trained adolescent psychiatrists and the millions of young people who need them, through fellowships, primary care training, evidence-based research support, and a certification pathway that scales access nationwide.

We speak to mental health professionals, primary care physicians, psychiatrists, and pediatricians with equal fluency, and we speak for the adolescent and young adult and their families, patients who have waited too long for help.

Mission Statement

"To advance research, education, and advocacy in adolescent and young adult psychiatry — expanding access to specialized care and empowering the professionals who provide it."

Our Five Pillars

Closing the gap in adolescent mental health, one fellowship, one certification, one evidence review at a time

Pillar 1: Trainee Scholarships & Journal Access

Subsidize journal subscriptions and scholarship/awards in offered by organizations that support for psychiatry residents and fellows focusing on adolescent and young adult populations — removing financial barriers to specialization.

Pillar 2: Primary Care Mental Health Certification

Promote development of an enhanced training curriculum with capstone certification for primary care providers, giving pediatricians and family physicians proven tools to identify, assess, and initiate care for adolescent psychiatric conditions increasingly prevalent in the primary care setting.

Pillar 3: Adolescent & Young Adult Psychiatry Fellowships

Partnership with medical training programs to develop new fellowship tracks specifically in Adolescent & Young Adult Psychiatry, with support for existing and new certification pathways.

Pillar 4: Research Support for New Treatments

Provide funding and infrastructure support for research developing safe, evidence-based, FDA-approved treatments for teens and young adults with mental health and substance use disorders.

Pillar 5 - Continuing Education Curriculum & Primary Care Textbook Development

A comprehensive continuing education library for mental health providers, anchored by a textbook specifically designed for primary care clinicians working with teenagers and young adults — the first of its kind at this intersection of audiences.

Help Us Close the Gap in Adolescent Mental Health

As a 501(c)3 Non-Profit, Non-Government Organization, AIAP works with fellowship programs, medical societies, primary care providers, and researchers to facilitate building a workforce capable of meeting the mental health needs of today's teens and young adults.

Dr. Krasner's clinical approach is developmental, psychodynamic, and pragmatic, viewing individuals as traversing a developmental trajectory in which context, history, and biology co-determine subjective reality. I specialize in diagnostic consultations, ongoing psychotherapy, and psychopharmacological management for a variety of psychiatric conditions, with particular expertise in anxiety and mood disorders. As founder of the Krasner Adolescent Institute, I lead an interdisciplinary assessment team focused on innovative psychiatric assessment for treatment-refractory teens and families. Most recently, I have been developing an interventional psychiatry practice that involves transcranial magnetic stimulation and ketamine therapy with exciting outcomes.
